*A New Film In Progress about an “Invisible” Friend*

Senior Thesis: the yearlong degree project
Film synopsis: Blob + Tail = Goldfish.

This is my Senior Degree Project (Thesis) done at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Although “Wall Pets” appears to be water colored, it was actually “colored” in Photoshop and only animated hand-drawn.

The previous summer, my internship at KBS had encouraged me to use Photoshop to “artistically rotoscope” live action footage. In order to digitally emulate the watercolor look, I colored one frame with much more care, and then afterwards, it was just a matter of copy-pasting, rotating and re-sizing.

To comply with the simple nature of goldifsh, I wanted the sound design be simple as well. I did the entire sound design using the library’s collection of Sound Effects CD.

Despite its overall simpleness– so far, “Wall Pets” was accepted to the following competitions and festivals for the year of 2009: Accolade Competition; Animazing! Spotlights; Animation Block Party (ABP); Bulldog Student Film Festival (”Judges Award”); Chinh India Kids Film Festival.

And for 2010: Boston Underground Film Festival (BUFF)

Although it did not win an award at the ABP, Casey Safron, the festival director has kindly offered to include “Wall Pets” in their DVD that they are producing for the 2010 Festival. YEA!

This was my Junior Thesis for the fall semester.

I like two things: The sound design & the illustration of the rain with the acetate sheets.

It was an animation based on a Haiku. The animation process involved paper puppets, AND acetate sheets that were punctured with a sewing machine– in order to simulate rain.
